FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Abilities Centre Receives $2,000 Donation from Whitby Men’s Hockey League to Support Transformative Programs

Whitby, ON – November 22, 2024 – The Abilities Centre is proud to announce a generous $2,000 donation from the Whitby Men’s Hockey League (WMHL) in support of its Pathways 2 Employment and Thrive programs. This incredible contribution highlights the WMHL’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and supporting individuals in the Durham Region who rely on vital community services.

The Pathways 2 Employment program equips participants with the skills and confidence needed to enter or re-enter the workforce, while Thrive is a dynamic adult day program designed for individuals aged 18 and older with developmental disabilities, offering opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and meaningful community engagement.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Whitby Men’s Hockey League for their thoughtful generosity and unwavering support,” said Zed Pickering, Director, Revenue Development at the Abilities Centre. “This donation will directly impact the lives of those we serve, empowering them to achieve their goals and fostering a greater sense of belonging within our community. It’s partnerships like these that help us continue to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.”

The Whitby Men’s Hockey League, comprised of 208 players across two divisions (ages 35+ and 50+), runs an annual raffle draw awarding free registration to one player in each division for the following season. All proceeds are donated to charitable programs that align with the league’s mission to support and uplift the community.

“On behalf of everyone at the Abilities Centre, I want to express our deepest gratitude to the Whitby Men’s Hockey League,” said Michael Cvitkovic, CEO of the Abilities Centre. “Their generous donation speaks volumes about their commitment to making a positive difference in our community. Contributions like this are vital to sustaining programs like Pathways 2 Employment and Thrive, which empower individuals to live fuller, more independent lives.”

This contribution will allow the Abilities Centre to continue delivering innovative programs that inspire personal and professional growth while promoting accessibility and inclusion.
