Designed to support high school aged student athletes as they strive for success at regional, provincial, national & international levels of competition, the Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD) provides one of the most unique and inclusive models to support student athletes on able-bodied, parasport, and Special Olympic performance pathways.
Our model is intended to make high-performance sport training more equitable to students from a variety of backgrounds with a focus on serving those who face the greatest social and economic barriers to pursuing athletic and academic achievement. Each student-athlete is considered full-time equivalency, with time being divided between their home school and ASAD training facilities.
Utilizing an innovative partnership-based framework, ASAD leverages nationally and globally recognized experts in the delivery of the program, ensuring optimal academic, athletic and psychosocial benefits for participating student-athletes.
The academic component of the program is delivered in partnership with local school boards to ensure that student athletes are participating in a provincially approved curriculum in order to graduate with the required credits and course-work for their desired post-secondary destinations.
The athletic component of the program is delivered in partnership with Provincial and National Sport Organizations to ensure alignment with the Long Term Athlete Development Model for each sport and each individual sport’s high performance pathway.
ASAD also provides professional development opportunities for teacher-coaches, with a focus on supporting increased participation in school sport at all levels.
