Inclusion & Accessibility

  • How do you define inclusion?
The definition of inclusion is: “To encourage people of all abilities to engage in meaningful participation together in an environment which fosters a sense of belongingness and autonomy” (Active Living Alliance).
  • How do you define accessibility?
There are many different theories and models related to disability and inclusion. You may be familiar with the medical model of disability, which takes a divisive approach, applying a label to the person and focusing on “fixing” the person.

The social model of disability focuses on the barriers that impede people. These could be systemic barriers, negative attitudes, or exclusion by society (purposely or inadvertently).

  • How do I sign up for a membership?

Become a member online or visit our Customer Service Team at the Membership Desk.

  • Can I put my membership on hold?

Yes. You can suspend your membership for a minimum of 1 month to a maximum of 3 months with 10 days’ notice. There is a $10 administration fee that must be paid on the date of the hold, and applies whether you hold for one, two or three months.

  • How old do I have to be to sign up?

Individuals under the age of 16 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian upon registration for our services (membership, day passes, single passes). The parent or guardian is required to sign a liability waiver on the behalf of the individual. Once the waiver has been signed, individuals ages 12-16 are not required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian while using our facilities.
