Ethics Review Fee for Research Sponsored by Industry or For-Profit Organizations:
The Joint Research Ethics Board (JREB) at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) and Abilities Centre are pleased to support research endeavours to find innovative solutions to important issues in mental health sciences and in accessibility and inclusion.
The extent of ethics review and monitoring of research protocols is governed by national guidelines such as the Canadian Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2 (2014)), Health Canada ICH-GCP guidelines, and the US Office for Human Research Protections, and are in place to protect research participants. To provide appropriate review to clinicians/investigators and sponsors while adhering to regulatory requirements, substantial investment in the research ethics review process is required. The JREB Review Fee supports this investment and applies to all research sponsored by industry or for-profit organizations.
The fee for ethical review applies to research that receives its funding from an industry sponsor (i.e., Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology/Medical Devices Company or agents thereof) or other for-profit organizations. The Chair of Ontario Shores JREB is the final authority and makes decision on the type of review (full board or delegated) appropriate for a given study. All above minimal risk studies by default will go to the full board review and projects determined to be minimal risk by the Chair, will go to delegated review. The Table below lists the review fee charged for various JREB activities.
