Therapeutic Recreation in Summer, now in its 4th year, is the collaborative effort of Abilities Centre and Durham District/Durham Catholic District School Boards.

Recognizing some skills built during the school year may be lost over the summer months (routine, transitions, and the like) the partnership looked to create a fun and memorable program to maintain this progress while bridging the gap between June and an August/September school restart. Abilities Centre Therapeutic Recreation Specialists, TR Assistants, Teachers in Training, and Educational Assistants come together to provide engaging activities spanning all interests; physical literacy-related activities, outdoor exploration, creative arts, and socialization activities encompassing teamwork and collaboration.

Registrants must be current (or imminent beginning in August/September 2025) Durham District School Board OR Durham Catholic District School Board high school students belonging to a Practical Learning Program (PLP) or Learning and Life Skills (LLS) classroom.

Registrants must be independent. If they typically require 1:1 or additional dedicated support, please reach out and we can introduce you to our Community Integration Pathway. Registration for all new participants will only be confirmed pending an intake assessment with a member of our team (only for those participants who have not previously had an assessment/been a part of TR in Summer).

You may register for one two week block of
