Dear friends,

Due to our concern for the health and well-being of our community during the COVID-19 outbreak, Abilities Centre will close its facilities to the public temporarily for a period of three weeks, beginning Friday, March 13 at 5 pm.

The health and safety of our members, visitors, employees and the public at large is our highest priority. We will notify members and visitors immediately via email, our website, and through our social media channels.

These are extraordinary times and they call for extraordinary measures to protect the health and wellbeing of all people in our centre and our community, especially those who are most vulnerable, many of whom we serve. This is our greatest responsibility, and one we will take every precaution to ensure we exceed the highest possible standard.

During this time, all Abilities Centre facility-based programs and services, including access to the premises, will be suspended until further notice. Access to tenant partners on site will also be restricted.

We are deeply disappointed for the inconvenience this will no doubt cause to many people who are part of our community, including our members, program participants, volunteers and dedicated staff. We are committed to the operation of our centre and our mission of building more accessible and inclusive communities and look forward to resuming normal operations as soon as possible.

This decision was weighed very carefully against recommendations of Durham Region Health Department, Public Health Ontario, Public Health Canada, and the Town of Whitby.

We ask our members, users and other visitors to please be patient in the weeks to come. Rest assured that, in the days ahead and at such time that we can provide the highest quality of service and attention, that all inquiries and requests will be addressed in full.

In the meantime, updates will be available by email, our website, social media, and posted at the front doors. There will be limited staff presence to address inquiries, but we will strive to do our best to respond wherever possible.

Members will receive further email communication in the coming days regarding current membership status.

On behalf of the entire Abilities Centre community, I thank you for your understanding. Together, we will weather these immediate challenges and continue onward in our shared mission.

Sincerely,

Stuart McReynolds
