Dear members,

As you may know, Durham Region moved into Red (Control) zone under the Ontario Government’s Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework on Tuesday February 16, 2021. We look forward to returning to our previous operations during the Red Zone conditions that preceded the current lockdown. We are working on our plans to re-open and we can’t wait to welcome all of you back once it is safe to do so!

During this Red Zone phase, we will be continuing or re-opening the following programs and services (within maximum capacity numbers, which are very limited and will involve pre-booking):

•    Post Rehabilitation (TIME in-person; Respiratory Cardiac Maintenance - virtual)
•    Academy for Student Athlete Development (in person)
•    Personal training (1:1 in person and virtual)
•    Virtual Fitness Classes and programs
•    Thrive (1:1 and small group in person and virtual)
•    EmployAbilities (virtual)
•    Leadership in Training (virtual)
•    Therapeutic Recreation (1:1 in person and virtual)
•    Pathways (virtual)
•    Rentals
Furthermore, preceding this news it was announced that the Ontario Government made a new amendment to the Reopening Ontario Act that now permits people with disabilities to access therapy and critical programs at recreational centres such as ours. With this in mind, we will continue to work with pre-registered members to ensure they are now able to receive the critical services that have not been accessible in recent months.

Members that have written instruction from a regulated healthcare professional, will be able to access the Centre starting Monday, from 12:30pm – 4:00pm. These sessions will need to be pre-booked at the front desk and will be 90 minutes in duration. Call the Centre for more information 905-665-8500. Learn more on this amendment

We are working hard and doing everything that we can do get all members back in the Centre as soon as possible. We’re putting new protocols and plans in place, including staff training, to ensure we are offering the highest level of customer excellence while adhering to the health and safety standards of our facility.
Safety plan: Abilities Centre takes every precaution to ensure a safe environment, working closely with Ontario ministries and local health authorities, and adapts to changing condition by implementing new policy, procedures and protocols as needed. Please review our updated Safety Plan on our website to learn more about how we’re keeping members, staff and visitors safe.

We want to remind you that there are alternative options to staying active with us as a member. If you haven’t been at the Centre in a while you can try AC Virtual World from home as you prepare for us to fully re-open! A virtual membership gives you access to new classes weekly from Abilities Centre, plus our partners from the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre! Try AC Virtual World

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our members and our entire community. We will look forward to operating back at full capacity once we are permitted to do so. Stay safe and positive!
