We are so happy to be a part of this wonderful family. Eric has been a true inspiration as part of our Thrive program, showing determination and a positive attitude no matter what and putting a SMILE on everyone's face. Learn more about his story, and the wonderful family behind the SMILEY doughnut!

What was the biggest outcome from being a Thrive community member?

For Eric, it was the feeling of belonging, acceptance and the sense of purpose. He looked forward to his classes everyday, he's looking forward to continuing them when it's safe to do so.

How did you find Thrive?

As Eric was approaching the end of high school, I struggled with trying to find him something to do afterwards and our friend from Community Living Terri Grey suggested Thrive and it was like a gift from heaven. The program has truly enriched his life for the better.

Tell us one thing about Thrive that everyone should know, your favorite part?

The Thrive staff are truly a special group of individuals. They are the heart and soul of Thrive and are so incredibly welcoming to everyone and to my son Eric. The staff are selfless, friendly and make my son feel a sense of belonging and as a mother you want nothing more than for your child to be happy.

A little about the Crave Smiley:

This doughnut is very special to us here at Crave! We wanted to create a doughnut that embodied one of our employees (Nicole's brother) Eric and his infectious personality! In came the Crave Smiley! A confetti cake doughnut (Eric's favourite cake) dipped in a blue glaze, sprinkles and buttercream smiley! If anyone knows Eric, you know his smile is one of the best! In honour of Autism Awareness Month, a portion of our proceeds of our Crave Smiley will be donated to the Thrive Program at the Abilities Centre in Whitby. Eric has benefited greatly from this program and we are honoured to be able to recognize such an important program here in Durham Region. Here's to you, Eric! We love you!

Thank you @crave.doughnuts!
