Nico Iemma, Abilities Centre member, was named ParaSport Junior Athlete of the Year.

For those of you who do not know Nico, he is 11 years old and (pre-pandemic) participates in the drop-in boccia program that we offered on Wednesdays and Sundays. Nico was featured on CBS earlier this week.   

ASAD Highlights
 

 

  • Two ASAD Alumni participated in March Maddness 2020
  • Shaina Pellington – Arizona Wild Cats
  • Shaina was in the program in our inaugural year as part of the Durham Elite Basketball team. Shaina and the Wild Cats lost in the final round to Stanford. 
  • Keishana Washington, Drexel Dragons
  • Keishana was in the ASAD program for the inaugural and 2nd year. Keishana and the Dragons lost in the first round.


Both women have moved on to participate in programming with Canada Basketball.

Alex has been selected as one of only 16 speed skaters to represent Team Canada at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Kazan Russia in Jan. 2022.  He has started intense training and is very excited.   Thanks to both Victoria and Kelsey for all your work in helping Alex with his training.  GO CANADA GO
