FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 18, 2022 (Whitby, ON) – Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Science (Ontario Shores) and Abilities Centre are pleased to welcome the new Joint Research Ethics Board (REB) Chair, Dr. Rebecca Greenberg.

Dr. Greenberg is a registered nurse with prior experience in general medicine. She brings several years of experience in bioethics and research ethics from her roles as Senior Bioethicist at Sinai Health System, Vice-Chair of the Trillium Health Partners Research Ethics Board, and member of the Joint Centre of Bioethics.

Dr. Greenburg shares, "I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Joint Research Ethics Board. This is an exciting time to facilitate research collaboration between Ontario Shores and Abilities Centre, to create a framework for onboarding future potential research partners, and to provide opportunities for collaboration to conduct research in new areas such as vocational services, care transitions, and community engagement. I look forward to partnering with stakeholders and building upon the prior successes of Ontario Shores' REB."

Her studies have focused on improving priority setting in Ontario's wait times strategy through increased public engagement, organ transplantation, and the development of a bioethics curriculum for medical students from diverse geopolitical regions. Dr. Greenberg is the clinical and organizational ethics leader for Sinai Health System, with a focus on Mount Sinai Hospital's Women's and Infants' Health Program.

The arrival of Dr. Greenberg coincides with the establishment of the inaugural Joint REB between Ontario Shores and Abilities Centre. This partnership demonstrates Ontario Shores’ leadership in promoting research in the community and directly supports Abilities Centre–Ontario Shores Memorandum of Understanding, which includes "Research Collaboration" as a key pillar.

The Joint REB will facilitate research collaboration between both partners, provide a structure for onboarding future potential research partners, and create opportunities for Ontario Shores and Abilities Centre to pursue research in new areas.
