The Government of Ontario, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced that the province will require people to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of their vaccination status to access certain businesses and settings starting September 22, 2021. These measures are being taken to protect the vulnerable sector communities as well as the communities at large from COVID-19 and its variants.

Vaccinations have scientifically been shown to reduce symptoms of COVID-19 and its variants. This policy will comply with all applicable laws and is based on guidance from Health Canada, Public Health Ontario and local health authorities.

As of September 22, 2021, Ontarians will need to be fully vaccinated (two doses plus 14 days) and provide their proof of vaccination along with photo ID to access certain public settings and facilities. For a full list on the public settings please visit Ontario’s press release.
As a multi-purpose facility, and as an organization serving vulnerable populations, Abilities Centre will be required to follow the new provincial guidelines and implement policies outlining mandatory vaccinations for all members, participants, and anyone who enters the facility by September 22, 2021.

“As a leader in our community, it is crucial that we take this step to protect our staff, members and the entire region,” explains CEO & President Stuart McReynolds.

We are aware that there are many questions yet to be answered and we are working to confirm specifics so we can send communication in the coming days as more information is released on the proof of vaccination requirements.

In the meantime, please take time to review the Province’s New Requirement for Proof of Vaccination in Certain Settings FAQ

We thank you all for your continued support of Abilities Centre and we can’t wait to welcome you back as we abide by Government regulations to protect our community. The health and safety of our members, staff, volunteers, partners, friends and family is our highest priority.
