Abilities Centre announces National Accessibility Week Conference
Week-long series of events highlighted by annual Accessibility Awards
The Abilities Centre, an incubator for accessibility and inclusion, announced the launch of its inaugural National Accessibility Week Conference, scheduled for May 26-31, 2025, at the world-class facility in Whitby, Ontario. The conference will be highlighted by the annual Accessibility Awards on the evening of May 29, 2025.
With an important spotlight on accessibility throughout Canada, Abilities Centre will leverage National Accessibility Week to bring together partners in government, education, wellness, community, tourism and business to share best practices, identify current roadblocks to inclusion, and discuss emerging trends in accessibility.
“Abilities Centre is proud of the incredible partners we collaborate with daily as we strive to create a more inclusive society,” said Michael Cvitkovic, president and chief executive officer, Abilities Centre. “National Accessibility Week gives us an opportunity to highlight the important work being done on a shared mission of accessibility and inclusion. While we are making progress, it is only through greater teamwork with leading agencies that we will be able to achieve our goals. This conference will provide a platform for our entire staff to show the meaningful work being done at our Centre.”
Conference topics will include: Research; Therapeutic Recreation; Physical Literacy and Inclusion; Post-Rehabilitation; Accessibly Consulting; Employment Services and Skills Development; Trends in Accessible Fitness; Accessible Human Resources; the Academy of Student-Athlete Development (ASAD); Accessible Tourism; and more.
Registration for the Abilities Centre National Accessibility Week Conference will open on March 19. A list of workshops, keynote speakers, media partners and participating organizations will be announced in the coming weeks.
The annual Accessibility Awards will once again showcase passionate leaders and organizations who have set an example for communities across Durham Region and throughout Canada on accessible and inclusive programming, services and initiatives. The nomination period will open March 10, 2025. Award winners will be announced at the awards gala in front of hundreds of patrons and national media.
