Abilities Centre Receives continued investment from Ontario Government

Abilities Centre is delighted with the announcement today from the Government of Ontario and its continued commitment to advancing accessibility and inclusion for people that have encountered barriers which have been made worse by the pandemic throughout the province. We also recognize we have a long road to recovery ahead of us, and we look forward to working with our community, partners and those with lived experience to ensure needs are met.

“With the negative impacts of COVID-19 exacerbated for our disability community, it is critical that we embed accessibility and inclusion into provincial crisis response and recovery strategies,” explains CEO & President of Abilities Centre, Stuart McReynolds.

This investment which is an additional commitment of 4.5 million for a total of 6 million over three years will help us serve more people in the Durham Region and Ontario-wide through the expansion of our programs, services and partnerships. This investment supports our approach to improve quality of life, social inclusion, economic participation, and health and well-being for Ontarians of all ages and all abilities.

This strategic, partnership-based approach will ensure sustainable program and service delivery while providing model frameworks to support communities to becoming autonomous in leveraging the values and benefits of accessibility and inclusion.

Abilities Centre supports the delivery of services across several Government of Ontario mandates to achieve the priorities of multiple ministries in a common framework, with a focus on COVID-19 response and recovery.

Abilities Centre is addressing the increasing demand for accessibility and inclusion programs and services resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that in addition to providing more services and programs to Ontarians, this investment will significantly enhance COVID-19 recovery efforts, resulting in sustained impacts in the years to come.
