Pathways 2 Employment (P2E)

A supported employment and skills development program for individuals facing barriers in Durham Region.

Pathways 2 Employment (P2E) is a structured program that supports individuals facing barriers to employment to build practical workplace skills, identify their strengths, and take steps toward economic independence and community participation.

Skill Development Areas

Participants build workplace readiness, knowledge of disclosure and accommodations, and practical skills for workplace success. Workshop topics include career goal setting, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, rights and disclosure decisions, financial literacy, and more.

Intensive Workshops to Externships

Following intensive workshops and skills development at Abilities Centre, participants transition into externships at host sites within Durham Region where they can apply and build on the skills developed in training.

Externships provide a structured opportunity to experience real workplace environments, observe professionals in their roles, and gain a practical understanding of workplace expectations, responsibilities, and culture.

Working alongside employees and supported by a mentor or Job Coach, participants may take part in day-to-day tasks while developing transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and initiative.

This transition from classroom-based learning to workplace experience allows participants to explore career interests, build confidence and professional capabilities, and identify employment pathways that align with their goals, strengths, and skill sets.

Who is P2E for?

P2E is for individuals in Durham Region who are not currently enrolled in school or a training program, are not currently employed, and face barriers to finding or keeping meaningful work.

Group size is limited to 10 participants per cohort.
