Abilities Centre is home to some of the most versatile and fully accessible activity spaces in Durham Region. Whether you are looking for a court for your team, a track for your athletes, a studio for your group fitness session, or an adaptive training environment unlike anything else in Canada, our facility has the space and the infrastructure to make it happen.
Every activity space at Abilities Centre is fully accessible and designed to support participants of all ages, abilities, and activity levels. From casual community groups to high-performance training programs, our spaces are built to move with you.
Our Activity Spaces

Court Space
Abilities Centre features three full-size FIBA basketball courts that can be configured for a wide range of sports and activities. With generous ceiling height, high-quality flooring, and full accessibility throughout, our courts are suited to everything from recreational drop-in play and community leagues to competitive tournaments and parasport programming.
Our court space supports activities across different categories:
Racquet Sports

Indoor Soccer and Futsal
- Futsal on a single court
- Full pitch play using all three courts combined in a wide-orientation configuration, creating one expansive indoor soccer surface

Inclusive and Adaptive Sports
Abilities Centre is committed to providing genuine access to adaptive and parasport activities. Our courts and facility infrastructure support a full range of inclusive sport options, including:
- Wheelchair Basketball
- Seated Volleyball
- Inclusive Lacrosse
- Wheelchair Rugby
- Roller Sledge Hockey
- Parasport training and development
Therapeutic Recreation and Sport and Recreation Activities
Our court space also supports a range of therapeutic recreation and community sport programming, including:
- Kin Ball
- Dance groups
- Baton twirling
- Parachute activities
- Obstacle courses
Indoor Track
Abilities Centre features a 200-metre, six-lane IAAF-approved indoor track, one of the finest indoor running and walking facilities in Durham Region. The track is fully accessible and designed for year-round use by athletes, recreational walkers, and everyone in between.
The track supports a wide range of athletics activities including:
- Sprinting
- Distance running
- Hurdles
- Walking and fitness walking programs
- Athletic development and training
Track rentals are available for individual lanes or the full track, subject to availability and approval.
Fitness Studio
Our aerobics and specialty fitness studio is a fully equipped, accessible space designed for group movement of all kinds. Whether you are running a group fitness class, a wellness workshop, or a yoga session for your community group, our studio provides a welcoming, professional environment for your participants.
Activities well suited to our studio space include:
- Group fitness classes including spin, strength, and stretch
- Yoga and mindfulness groups
- Mobility and flexibility training
- Fitness workshops and educational sessions
Strength and Conditioning Area
Abilities Centre’s strength and conditioning area provides access to a comprehensive range of free weights, cardio equipment, and functional training tools. This space supports general strength and conditioning work for recreational users, community groups, and performance-focused athletes alike.
The strength and conditioning area is particularly well suited for team training, athletic conditioning programs, and fitness-based programming for sport organizations and community groups.

Helsinki University Research (HUR) Room
Abilities Centre is home to the world’s largest installation of Helsinki University Research (HUR) adaptive fitness and rehabilitation equipment, a truly unique training environment that exists nowhere else in Canada at this scale.
Using pneumatic air resistance technology rather than traditional weight stacks, the HUR Room provides a joint-friendly, fully accessible strength and conditioning environment that works for participants of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. The spacious, open layout inside modern glass walls is designed for comfortable navigation by wheelchair users, adaptive athletes, and anyone who finds traditional gym equipment difficult to use.
The HUR Room supports a range of training and wellness applications including adaptive strength training, functional movement, rehabilitation support, healthy aging programming, and high-performance athletic conditioning.

Playground
Abilities Centre’s fully accessible indoor playground provides a safe, engaging, and inclusive play environment for children of all abilities. Designed to support movement, exploration, and development, our playground space is available for group bookings and is well suited to birthday parties, school groups, therapeutic recreation programming, and family events.
