The Adult Social Club (ASC) is a social recreational program for adults with disabilities offered by the Abilities Centre and sponsored by Scotiabank. All activities provide the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, enhance self-esteem, and optimize personal growth. In an attempt to streamline registration, ASC program fees will be due in January and will cover Membership and ASC activities for the entire year. The program fees will be a one-time fee of $75.
Regular club activities will take place on the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Activities will consist of social networking and a variety of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, games, music, and so much more.
All participants in ASC Tuesday/Thursday will have the opportunity to attend combined community outings. Two community outings will be scheduled each month and members may choose to attend one of them. Outings will be arranged based on popular prior outings and suggestions from the Adult Social Club participants. There is an additional cost to attend community outings which will range from $5.00 to $20.00. In order to provide optimal safety and enjoyment during a community outing, there will be a maximum number of members that can attend each outing. Sign-ups for community outings are on a first- come first-serve basis. Once an outing is full, members wishing to attend will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified in case of a member cancellation. Refunds will only be issued if Abilities Centre cancels an outing.
Adult Social Club themed dances take place monthly and are held in the multi-purpose room at Abilities Centre from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. There is an additional cost of $5.00 to attend each dance and this includes a live D.J., light refreshments, and spot dance prizes.
Dances are open to all participants in ASC Tuesday and ASC Thursday.
Adult Advisory Committee
The Adult Advisory Committee is a dedicated group of Adult Social Club members who have been meeting once a month to discuss club activities, outings, and program guidelines. They provide valuable feedback as well as suggesting new and creative ideas for future activities. With the New Year beginning, we are introducing a Social Suggestion Box in place of the Adult Advisory Committee meetings. The Social Suggestion Box will be present with suggestion slips at each of the drop-ins so that the participants have a more easily accessible way to suggest activities, outings and program feedback.
